Biog
Centre-forward Archibald Longmuir was signed by Celtic in May 1920 from his hometown side Ardrossan Winton Rovers.
He scored twice on his debut as Celtic defeated Raith Rovers 5-0 in a league encounter at Celtic Park on 27th November 1920, which boded well it seemed for the future. However he had to wait until March 1921 for his next match, a 3-2 win over Hearts, his only matches in that season.

He was also said to have the touch of Tommy McInally but not his speed. However, he did take Tommy McInally’s place when Tommy McInally was in the midst of any indiscretions or injuries.
Archie Longmuir was taken on the Paris tour, and despite having played in none of the matches, Archie Longmuir still got to visit the recent battlefields to pay his respects. Something that was still very fresh in the memory of all.
His main run of games came in the first quarter of the league title winning season of 1921-22, and so he made his mark in helping Celtic win a league, which Celtic actually struggled to repeat again over the next 10-15 years only winning it once more in 1925-26 until 1935-36. In certain respects, he helped Celtic win their final league title that ended an era of dominance for the club, as Celtic over the previous 25 years or so had a proud record in the league for winning championships and setting records.
His six goals were scored as three doubles against Hibs and Raith Rovers (twice, once in season 1920/21 and then in season 1921/22). As Celtic were to win the league by 1pt over Rangers and that Raith Rovers finished third, then his goals made a significant difference to help Celtic over the line.
He has a very proud record of having not played in a losing Celtic side in the league or cups. Sadly, he didn’t get to play in the 1921 Glasgow Cup final which Celtic won 2-0 v Rangers. His last match for Celtic was in a 1-1 draw with Rangers in the league in Oct 1921.
A hard working forward, Archie Longmuir saw opportunities at Celtic Park restricted due to the talent of Tommy McInally and Jimmy McGrory, and so eventually departed after a very commendable record of 10 league appearances and 6 goals to Blackburn Rovers in November 1921. Tommy McInally was a favoured son for the manager and Jimmy McGrory was to prove to be one of the greatest strikers of all time, so competition was quite strong for Archie Longmuir.
He later moved on to Wrexham where he was a successful player, playing as a winger for 223 games with 36 goals.
Later won £16,982 11 s 4d in the pools (Dec 1935) estimated to be around £700k in today’s money, and used that to set up in business.
