Hurlford born Dan McCann (a "thin slip of a boy") was an inside left who signed for Celtic in May 1910 from Dundee. After a brave performance for Dundee against Rangers, where after being concussed in the match yet still came back onto the pitch to help them win he was a hero there. Yet he pleaded with Dundee to go to Celtic. Willie Maley was said to be keen on the "dashing young forward".
His debut came on August 17th at Parkhead when Celtic defeated Airdrie 3-0 in a league clash. A quick footed and brave footballer he lacked the physical strength to really make an impact and consequently made only seven appearances - and scored one goal - for the Hoops. The arrival of John Hastie, Dan was pushed out the side.
His last game saw him score a goal v Hearts which will have given him some pride.
He moved on to Dundee Hibernian in May 1911. A sad one as he wanted to play for the club.
Later signed up for the war effort in 1914, and was ranked as a corporal by Nov 1917.
