BiogMcCondichie, Andy - The Celtic Wiki

A goalkeeping crisis saw Celtic Boys Club graduate, Andy McCondichie, get his solitary taste of first team action in November 1998.

With regular keepers Gould and Kerr both unavailable the young Andy McCondichie took the No.1 jersey for the November 7th league clash at Parkhead against Dundee. Andy McCondichie enjoyed a pleasant afternoon and wasn’t called in to action too frequently as Celtic ran out 6-1 victors. The match is best known as being a shared debut for Andy McCondichie with a certain Lubo Moravcik. It was a lapse in concentration by the Celtic defence to score a goal that had seemed unlikely in the circumstances. Dundee’s McInally’s throughball left the Celtic defenders howling in vain for offside, and Dundee’s Annand, completely free, left-footed the ball high past Andy McCondichie on the run.

Tony Warner then arrived on from Liverpool the following week to take his place between the sticks for the famous 5-1 Hunskelping, so looks like Andy McCondichie came close but just missed out on playing a role in one of the most fondly remembered matches in Celtic’s history, most notably in a decade when victories v Rangers were not so common.

He had been an aspiring youth talent. At the 1996 Bourg Blanc youth cup Andy McCondichie played in midfield for Celtic youths, scoring the final goal in a 4-0 win over a Corsican XI. This victory on 19 May 1996 secured seventh place in the 12 team tournament.

Despite all that, loan spells at Airdrie and Hamilton followed but the youngster failed to impress and he was released by Celtic in the summer of 1999 without making another senior appearance for the Bhoys.

Post-Celtic
After Celtic, he joined Raith Rovers making only one appearance for them before moving to Clydebank. A further season making just one appearance saw Andy McCondichie opt for Junior football.

He played briefly for Pollok Juniors and then with Maryhill Juniors. He moved to Stranraer when Neil Watt, the Maryhill manager took over as manager at Stranraer, and was a regular there for a couple of seasons.

He returned to Junior football in 2005/06 to play for Kilwinning Rangers. He is believed to have had spells with Cumnock, Neilston and Queens Park during 2004/05.

Last known he was playing for Shotts Bon Accord.
