Biog

Goalkeeping prospect from the Boys Club system who featured at Youth and Reserve level before going on to a good League career with other clubs.

Mark McLean

When Andy Murdoch was sold to Partick in February 1991, Mark found himself finishing that season as second choice to Pat Bonner. But incoming new manager Liam Brady immediately brought in Gordon Marshall and an unimpressed McLean found himself back down the pecking order. Albeit he sat on the bench for the European games with Cologne, because Marshall was first choice and Bonner would have taken one of the four slots for 'foreign' players.

By the next round against Dortmund Bonner was back between the sticks and Marshall on the bench. To add to McLean's woes the club had two excellent young keepers in Stewart Kerr and Shay Given coming through the ranks.

McLean was released in 1993 without playing in a competitive first team match and Willie McStay added him to the Scottish contingent at Sligo Rovers. Three Successful years as first choice and playing Brugge in the Cup Winners Cup preceded a reurn to Scotland in summer 1996. He was fixed up by Clyde and one of his first games was against Celtic in the League Cup. After two years with Clyde he moved on to Albion Rovers for another two and then joined Berwick Rangers for 2000/01.

After losing his place at Berwick he signed a short term deal with Peterhead in September 2001. He then reportedly featured for Glenafton Athletic before making a comeback with Kilwinning Rangers in January 2003. He was sent off after coming on at half-time in an 8-1 win at Darvel the following month.
