BiogMoir, James - Pic

Bonhill-born Jimmy Moir signed for Celtic in September 1898 from Vale of Leven and made his debut for the Bhoys on October 8th in a 1-0 league win at home to St Bernard’s.

However the right-half initially failed to make an impact at Parkhead and was loaned to Vale of Leven and Blackburn Rover before returning to Glasgow in May 1901 a much more assured performer (having had an excellent spell with Blackburn playing 32 out of 34 league games for them).

A great return going into the first team was ended against Rangers at Ibrox in the Glasgow Cup final of 1900. His knee was so seriously damaged he had to take it down to Manchester to consult Celtic shareholder and osteopath Dr Allison at his famous clinic on Hyde Rd.

He made a comeback at start of 1902-03 and won a gold watch on Sep 24 1902 in the final of the Ibrox Disaster Benefit Tourney (being Morton 4-2). Also won a Charity Cup medal.

Last match was a 3-1 loss away at Third Lanarks.

Moir had made a total of 38 Celtic appearances by the time he was transferred to a happy blackburn on a permanent basis in November 1903.
