Celtic Career Review

An inspirational centre half who captained the U18 and reserve sides after signing on Christmas eve 1994. From Falkirk and originally joined Celtic Boys Club from local team Gairdoch BC in November 1991.

Got a brief taste of first team football in 1996/97 when loaned to John Hewitt's Dundalk side in the Irish Premier Division and appeared set for the breakthrough when he made the squad for the UEFA Cup game with Inter Cable Tel in July 1997. He had just signed a new two year contract at that point but went on to enjoy a solid season skippering the reserves, albeit much to the disinterest of Wim Jansen. The next season was disrupted by injury and it came as little surprise when Morrison's name figured in the long list of those released at the conclusion of 1998/99. He had already been on a two week trial with Davie Moyes' Preston North End on 22 March 1999.

Next port of call for Graeme was Finland and a short spell with TPV Tampere, where Gerry Creaney was also in evidence. Sadly the injury-prone duo could not prevent the club from being the Veikkausliiga's whipping boys – as they finished the 22 game season with a measly eight points.

This preceded a move to Billy Stark's Greenock Morton in Division One where he again suffered injury and was cut adrift at the end of that season, spending the next year clubless and presumably in recuperation.

Summer 2001 heralded a fresh start: a trial with Partick Thistle and ultimately a contract with unfashionable part-timers Stirling Albion in the basement division of the league. Along with Tadg Moriarty, he then figured in Stirling's 8-0 League Cup defeat by a shadow Celtic side on 6/11/01. Despite being the captain of the side, he was axed upon Stirling's failure to win promotion and with this appears to have retired from the game altogether.

Resigned from a coaching role with Junior club Crossgates Primrose in April 2009, a position he had held for approximately two years alongside Alan Sneddon (the Alan Sneddon?).
He died prematurely from Cancer aged 41 in 2018.

By: Newsroom Staff on 27 Sep, 2018 09:34

FORMER Celtic reserve player, Graeme Morrison sadly passed away on Tuesday night at the age of only 41-years-old after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer The Falkirk-born centre-half, who joined on an ‘s’ form in 1991 was a regular in the youth and reserve sides of the club between signing as a professional in 1994 and leaving to join Tampere in Finland in 1999. During Graeme’s time with Celtic, he also went on loan to Irish club, Dundalk where he made a handful of first-team league appearances. He also played with Morton and Stirling Albion on his return from Finland. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Park are with Graeme’s family and friends at this sad time.
