DefinitionJock Brown told us to lie" - A Daily Record special after being duped on Vidar Riseth's signing

Common reference used (mostly online) as a shorthand for the media, in particular the tabloids. It does encompass also the two chief broadsheets in Scotland and the tartan editions from down south, but the ire is reserved mostly for the tabloids. As the lines between the differing media are blurred, with 'analysts' covering radio, TV, online blogs as well as the papers, MSM really covers the whole gamut across the board.

Usually used in anger and in a sweeping way to discuss the media, certain Celtic fans use the acronym to give quick comment on any new developments. Little new can be said and the acronym is a favoured means on Twitter to let all know if there are any perceived agendas going on.

For other references, online forums, supporters blogs and podcasts are the alternative and with the Internet Bambots tag, they really are providing a counterweight to the media.

A long litany across the board in the media of sycophantic and unwavering loyalty to Rangers and their owners, hitting its peak with the now discredited journalist Jim Traynor's Succulent Lamb articles, has been the prime reason for the dismissal of the Media as a whole by many Celtic supporters.

However, the mainstream media do still provide a very important role, and what we as Celtic supporters request is even handedness, and not the antagonistic bile that is usually directed against us. Until that lesson is learnt there will always be a divide. There arevarious sympathetic & fair commentators but shock jocks are the norm now and their myopic outlook is damaging to the long-term health of the game.

So whilst the bulk of the media holds a grudge against us, and continues to pander to the delusional Zombie Huns, fans will flock to the online alternatives. The bulk of the SMSM are definitely an unwelcome group amongst the core of our support and likely will remain so for as long as we can see.

Quotes

"They [the players] read the Daily Record and get into a lather about what's there. They know it's all rubbish but they read it anyhow."
