In early July 1975, whilst returning from holidaying in Minorca, Jock Stein was involved in a car crash on the A74. His injuries were severe and his convalesence and recuperation meant that Sean Fallon took over the running of the club through the 1975-76 season. Jock Stein returned to his manager's position and responsibilities in May 1976.
