he's not in the "A-Z of Players" by McBride et al, so likely he didn't play a first game (competitive).

"A player is names in the 1921-22 line up as a 'J McKnight', but he's not listed here (on the never played a game page)The player McKnight who joined Celtic in May 1921 was John McKnight, a half-back. His previous clubs were St Anthony's (1919/20), Parkhead Juniors and Bo'ness FC (both 1920/21). He was only at Celtic briefly, and even then was loaned out to Cowdenbeath for a spell. Lack of courage was not his problem - during the First World War he had been awarded the DCM by Britain and the Croix de Guerre by France. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have John McKnight playing 10 Reserve fixtures in season 1921-22. Not all teams were listed in the Evening Times for Celtic Reserve fixtures. Also on the "Never played a game" page, you'll find that upwards of 100 players missing are from there as its looks like it started at 46/47 season. "Just a note to say that the Croix de Guerre awarded to John McKnight in WWI was from Belgium, not France. Also that his act of bravery involved storming a German machine-gun nest (along with one other soldier), and taking quite a few prisoners. Do you find this valuable? |
