Biog Corr, Barry John - The Celtic Wiki

Barry John Corr was signed on an S-Form as a 13 year old and played youth football with Celtic Boys Club. Injuries were to hamper his whole career.

He joined the club full time on his 16th birthday and was given a 2 year contract making his debut as GK for the U19’s the same season. He was also selected for Scotland U16’s but generally that season was curtailed with a knee ligament injury that kept him out for 3 months.

He came back strongly in 1998/99 as the first choice for the U19’s and began to get sub spots with the Reserves.

With injuries to more senior keepers he also began to get bench spots in the first team and won his debut as a sub for an injured Jonathon Gould against Hearts on the 14th April 1999, aged just 18. He retained his first team bench spot to the end of the season but no further appearances on the pitch for the first team.

Despite having reached a high so early, he returned to the Reserves the following season but signed a further contract through to July 2001. He continued as Reserve team first choice and went on loan to Queens Park from March 2001 to the end of the season.

The entire 2001/02 was spent out recovering from a career threatening back injury. This was so serious that he started 2002/03 working as an extra on the physio staff. Apart from the obvious loss time from the injuries, it meant he did not get to take part in the rejuvenation of Celtic on the field as Martin O’Neill took over in 2000 and turned the whole ship around.

With his contract up at the end of 2002/03, Barry John Corr left the club on a free and joined Motherwell as back-up goalkeeper to ex-Celt Gordon Marshall making 11 appearances in 2 seasons before moving on to Stranraer for 2005/06. An interrupted season followed with Queen of the South before taking a short term contract at Ayr Utd for the start of 2007/08.

He then moved on to the reborn Clydebank FC in Junior football before retiring in summer 2008 to focus on his business interests outside football. Although he has since made sporadic appearances for Yoker Athletic and answered an SOS from third division East Stirlingshire during their ‘keeper crisis in January. After one trialist appearance against Stenhousemuir he knocked back a contract offer.

Spotted turning out for Cumbernauld-based amateur cracks Dalmuir United in December 2009.

We wish him the best
