The Glasgow Herald, 19 August, 1920
Ten thousand spectators witnessed the opening match at Douglas Park last night, Celtic were first to attack, and the goal obtained for them 12 minutes from the start by McInally was merited on play. Gallacher and Cassidy were Celtic’s leading lights. Half time – Celtic 1; Academicals, 0. A narrow escape of the Celtic goal from a fast shot by Purdie helped to liven up the game. Hanlon was always a source of trouble but McStay repeatedly beat him. From a free kick Cullen headed the equaliser. Academicals made a great endeavour in the closing minutes to win outright, and on the whole run of the game were full value of a division of points.
