Match report from The Scotsman, 2nd September 1920

Fully 15,000 spectators witnessed a rousing game between Celtic and Morton at Parkhead, Glasgow. The visitors opened in great style, and for the first fifteen minutes Shaw was kept busy. Once the Celtic forwards got settled, play became even, and some brilliant touches were witnessed on both sides. A fine movement initiated by McAtee led up to the first goal, McInally finally putting the ball past Edwards. In the second period, Morton made strong efforts to draw level, and in a scrimmage in the Celtic goal one of the defenders gave away a penalty. Shaw saved French’s shot, but ten minutes from the finish Morton were awarded another penalty, and this time French equalised.

. The Glasgow Herald – Sep 2, 1920
These clubs met last night at Celtic Park in the Scottish League before 18,000 supporters. Ball made his first appearance for the season, and Gallagher resumed for Celts. The pace right from the start was a lively one. Shaw cleared two good tries made by French and McNab; and McInally, Cassidy and Cringan all gave Edwards opportunities for distinguishing himself. The sides were evenly matched and it was not until ten minutes from the interval that Celts gained any ascendancy. Then after several corners, McInally scored a fine goal, and the following minute he nearly repeated his success.
Celts pressed severely after the resumption, and any unsteadiness in the Morton defence would have been severely punished, but they came through with colours flying. The Greenock attack came again and during a raid on Shaw one of the Celts’ defenders fisted over the bar. French failed with the penalty award, but got a chance of redeeming himself when McStay handled within the box and this time he netted. Play continued keen to the finish, but no further scoring took place.
