Biog

On trial at Celtic, Paddy Trodden played just one league game as a Celt when he appeared as a trialist in the 2-1 home league win over Dundee on 4th May 1895. He helped Celtic fight back from one down after a few mins to win the game to close out the season with Celtic ending runners-up to new league champions Hearts who had won their first league title.

He was an orphan from Quarrier’s Home, and had become a footballer, so a good story to see that someone from such a background had made it at Celtic, a club set up to help poor children.

He had played previously to Celtic with Shawbank, Kilsyth Hibs, Kilmarnock (trial) and Queen’s Park (trial).

The match was the last league game of the season and would be Paddy Trodden’s only appearance for the Bhoys.

Peter O’Rourke had returned to the Celtic first feam for the next two games, which were in the successful run to take the Glasgow Charity Cup. Both Peter O’Rourke & Paddy Trodden were new to the First Team, so likely after these games, it was decided that Peter O’Rourke was to be the choice for the Celtic first team the next season. Possibly a correct one as Celtic went on to win the league.

Paddy Trodden went on to play for Kilmarnock Athletic.
