Trivia

  • On the Wednesday night after this game a joint Rangers – Celtic team played a Friendly against Inverness Caledonian to celebrate the inaugural use of the new floodlights at the Inverness ground. Included for Celtic were Beattie, Kennedy, Crerand, Tully and Conway. The combined team won 4-2 with Conway getting one of the goals. One curious trivia the Celtic players had to sign a short-term deal with Rangers in order to play for a Celtic/Rangers XI  v Caledonian FC in a friendly to mark the turning on of their new floodlights. This was due to Scottish FA rules requiring all players fielded by a club to be signed to that club. Therefore, this was as if it was a Rangers team with Celtic players as guests.
  • A Tuesday afternoon game. Both Berties’s had recovered from ‘flu as had Matt McVittie from the cyst on his neck. In came Steve Chalmers for his debut with the seniors and Colrain was at centre forward.

Review

Another poor game despite the return of the two Berties. The forwards were said to have been uninspiring bar the youthful but inexperienced Chalmers and the persistent Sammy Wilson. Generally Airdrie played much better and more persistent football thougfh Wallace in the Airdrie goal hasd a good game stopping everything Celtic threw at him. Ex-Celt Jim Sharkey impressed for Airdrie at outside right. McGill got the first form Airdrie when Haffey made a mistake and allowed a skidder under his body. Colrain equalised after a fine run and accurate cross from Bertie Auld. A mistake inn the defense allowed Airdrie in on the 60th minute and Black shot home to give Airdrie the points.
