Trivia

  • Charlie Tully and Jock Stein dropped out; Evans moved to centre half with Mike Conroy coming in at right half; and John McAlindon coming in as centre forward and John McPhail dropping out. Eric Smith also travelled with the party down to Dumfries and there appears to have been some indecision as to the final line up. All the players were said to be fit and ready to play. It seems highly unlikely that Stein would be dropped so he must have been unfit.
  • John McAlindon's first victory for Celtic, his tenth first team appearance.

Review

Evans by all accounts put up a good show at centre half. Queen of the South had the most of the play in the first half. Despite the pressure Queens could not find the net though Fallon had to clear from the line. The Queens goalkeeper Henderson did not appear in the second half with Black going into goal. When Henderson did appear it was as an outfield player so he must have picked up an injury. In the time Black was custodian Queen of the South lost two goals. Walsh got the first after good work from Collins and Sharpe scored an own goal trying to stop Fernie scoring.

Rangers had an 89th minute escape at home to Falkirk. Two games played and nothing to divide the top with both on equal points and equal goal difference.
