Trivia

  • The Celtic party moved on from New York to St Louis and were joined by Bobby Evans and Bobby Collins who had been representing Scotland in the European Championships.
  • Whilst in St Louis they were invited to tour the baseball ground of the St Louis Cardinals and John Bonnar, John Jac, Vince Ryan and John Higgins all tried their hands at the sport without managing to hit the pitcher.
  • A pipe band played the national anthems of Scotland (‘Scotland the Brave’), Ireland (‘Wearing of the Green’) and the United States – well they got the last one right apparently.

Review

The St Louis press reported the game and these snippets were carried by the Evening Times:
“Bobby Collins – an international star. He rammed home two great goals.”
“John Jack – rugged, constructive, but never took an unfair advantage of our centre forward.”
“Bobby Evans – No wing half back of all the touring clubs of recent years matched him for skill, versatility and stamina. In chatge of play from first to last.”

Teams

Charlie Tully scored the first goal on 37 minutes with Bobby Collins getting the other two (85, 88). John Bonnar, John Jack, Bobby Evans and Neil Mochan also played..
