Trivia

  • The Hamilton Primo XI were somewhat of a curiousity. They were player-managed, trained and put together by Bill Paterson who had last been seen playing at centre half for Rangers in the 1960 Cup Final against Kilmarnock. He had made a dash to Scotland in the preceding months to recruit some players for the side. The Primo team contained 8 Scots, 5 of them recently recruited by Paterson for this game, as well as three Italians from Toronto.
  • Celtic trained for the first time on this tour using the McMaster University playing fields in Hamilton – which itself is a short ride from Toronto where the previous game against Tottenham Hotspur had taken place.
  • This game was played on a hot Wednesday night .
  • Neil Mochan had packed 11 full sets of strips for the tour of 11 games and not one would be returned to Scotland, all being distributed to Celtic-based clubs they met on the tour.

Review

The team were nine goals up by half time and relaxed somewhat in the second half with McCarron and Chalmers coming on as substitutes for McNeill and Lennox.
