Trivia

  • This was the postponed game which had been due to be played on February 28th.
  • The SFA finally made up their mind do do something about the Battle of Montevideo. Johnstone, Lennox, Hughes, Auld and Murdoch were called in front of the Disciplinary Committee on the Monday….. and the Committee decided to …… have a think about it!
  • Despite the fixture congestion, particularly for Rangers, Celtic and Rangers were ordered by the SFA to play their Glasgow Cup semi on the 11th March.
  • John Clark was considered doubtful for the game as he was still recovering from a leg strain. Auld was still out with knee and ankle injuries. An unchanged team from the one that put six past Kilmarnock was named with David Hay as substitute.
  • David Hay makes his debut as sub for Charlie Gallagher.

Outside of football 2000 men were set to lose their jobs from Upper Clyde Shipbuilders.

Review

After a terrific game at Kilmarnock Jimmy Johnstone followed that game up with a blinder at Celtic Park. Just as brilliant was John Hughes performance making runs and pulling the Aberdeen defense all over the road allowing gaps for the other forwards. It was Bobby Lennox' turn to be in the goals and he snapped up a hatrick. Billy McNeill added the fourth with a header from a corner. 4-0 in front at half time the foot came off the gas in the second half and Aberdeen pulled one back.
