  • Celtic received planning permission to start roofing the Rangers end of the ground.

  • Celtic signed Tommy Callaghan on the 22nd November from Dunfermline for £35,000 – the highest fee paid for a player so far by Celtic – and he went straight into the team to make his Celtic debut …..and scores. He would not be eligible for the Red Star Belgrade game.
  • Along with Tommy Callaghan, Steve Chalmers was restored to centre forward with Willie Wallace dropping to the bench and Bertie Auld missing out.

Review

Celtic were in great form for this win.
Tommy Callaghan slotted right into the side and made a quite devastating partnership on the left with John Hughes. Hughes was quite amazing in this game.
Hughes opened the scoring from close in after a quarter hour gone. Callaghan got the second when he collected the ball from Hughes and slammed home a 25 yard shot. In the second half Hughes picked up a second goal before Bobby Lennox finished it off with Celtic's fourth.
