  • This was the final of the first ever Drybrough tournament which was deemed a success. Game played at Pittodrie although future finals to be played at Hampden.
  • Aberdeen fans invade the pitch at time up and this causes ill feeling with the Celtic supporters present.
  • Jimmy Bonthrone's first game as Aberdeen manager.

Review

Jock Stein played five of his most promising youngsters and chose to rest more experienced players. Williams, Gemmell, Brogan, Johnstone, Lennox, Hood and Wallace were all left out.

Gordon Marshall was given a chance as goalkeeper and did well despite the result.

Celtic were angry that Callaghan wasn't awarded a stick on penalty in the second half when he was fouled in the area.
