- A tremendous festive crowdof 47,000 turn out to watch an excellent game.
Review
This was a fine game, a credit to both teams, played on a treacherous, icy pitch in front of an enormous, festive crowd. Celtic were keen to take their revenge for their recent League Cup final defeat to Ally MacLeod's Dons.
Drew Jarvie was the best player afield with two excellent goals with Joe Craig not far behind him. Celtic sprung a surprise by playing young midfielder Tommy Burns in the unusual position of left back, in place of the injured Andy Lynch. After a shaky start the young Burns grew in confidence and looked impressive on the overlap.
In the second half Celtic attacked relentlessly and only a magnificent save from Bobby Clark, from a Joe Craig shot which he deflected past the post, prevented a Celtic victory and a Craig hat trick.
Aberdeen were dangerous on the break with Harper, Jarvie and Graham always a threat but Celtic were ultimately the more disappointed at the final whistle.
