Trivia
- Celtic play in change strip of green shirts, white shorts and white socks.
- Brian Coyne played his only game for Celtic when he appeared as a sub. Because Alfie Conn was also a sub on the night there has been some confusion over the years regarding Coyne's appearance and several Celtic histories have been printed showing 'Conn' appearing as a sub when in fact it was 'Brian Coyne'.
Review
Only 7000 fans turned out for this midweek match, Celtic's lowest league crowd for many years after their 4-1 hammering at Easter Road two days previously. Celtic and Hibs were level on points and battling it out for fourth place and a UEFA cup spot.
Captain Andy Lynch had a sparkling game with many fine runs down the left wing. Ronnie Glavin was also pushed up front and responded well with a goal.
However Edvaldsson scored the goal of the game after McAdam had deftly back heeled the ball to Lynch and from his cross Edvaldsson touched the ball past goalkeeper Gallacher.
Gallacher had a fine game but couldn't stop a powerful Glavin shot when he was clear on goal and MacDonald made it 3-0 at half time from a rebound after Conroy's shot was blocked.
Ex Celt Tommy Callaghan came on as a sub in the second half and Bankies scored twice although McColl's goal looked suspiciously offside.
McAdam made it four with a powerful header from another Lynch cross and Aitken rounded off the scoring after fine play from Ronnie Glavin had sent him clear in on goal.
Youngster Brian Coyne maded his debut in the second half as a replacement for Mike Conroy.
