Capone given a run but O'Brien is the hero in narrow Celtic win
JOHN LEES AT LONDON ROADPeterborough United 1 McLean (21)
Celtic 2 McDonald (19), O'Brien (53)
JIM O'Brien's second-half strike earned Celtic victory over Peterborough last night as the SPL champions stepped up their preparations for the new season.
Celtic took the lead in the 19th minute when Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink flicked a free-kick across goal and McDonald made no mistake with the volley. The lead lasted just two minutes, however, as McLean was soon on hand to meet Rene Howe's cutback to level things up.
United manager Darren Ferguson - the son of Sir Alex - rang the changes at half-time, making ten alterations, and it was the visitors who took control, with Vennegoor of Hesselink coming close to restoring the advantage. And Gordon Strachan's team, with trialist Andrea Capone in the starting XI, did not have long to wait to regain the lead courtesy of O'Brien's composed finish.
McDonald was celebrating again ten minutes later but his goal was ruled out for offside.
