Biog

Speedy and industrious attacking midfielder/forward who progressed through the U17 and U19 teams only to be released by the club in summer 2008. Soon picked up by Kilmarnock on a short term deal and handed their squad no. 49 for 2008/09.

Tragically suffered serious facial injury and disfigurement after he was attacked with an axe and knife in August 2008. Craig had accompanied a woman he met in a pub back to her flat, only for her jealous boyfriend to turn up, drag her through the window and run amok.

The 36-year-old assailant was jailed for 5 years in December 2008, while Connell was unable to train properly and was ditched by Kilmarnock. His career seemingly over aged just 18.

Happily though, he got back into the game with local Junior club Irvine Victoria in summer 2009. With a degree of understatement the Ayrshire minnows' coach remarked:

“Craig lost his way a wee bit last year and had a spell at Kilmarnock after leaving Celtic. But realises the opportunity we have offered him and he’s keen to get his career back on track. No doubt this lad has ability.”

We hope Craig all the best in his comeback. He transferred to Girvan Juniors in July 2010.
