BiogTom Hutchinson

Thomas Hutchinson was a centre-forward who signed for the Bhoys from West Bromwich Albion in July 1896.

The former Govan Whitefield, Darlington and Newcastle player made his first league appearance for the Celts in a 3-0 league victory over Hearts at Parkhead on 5th September 1896.

The journeyman Hutchinson was seen only as a stop gap signing by Celtic, and he would only make one further league appearance for the first team (again coincidentally against Hearts in a 1-1 draw on 24th October 1896) before joining Abercorn in November 1896. So he spent only a very brief time with Celtic.

He played soon after his departure for Abercorn v Celtic at Celtic Park on 7th November 1896, leading the frontline but to no avail with Celtic winning comfortably 5-0 in the league match. He left to play for Stockport County the next year, but is believed to have had to prematurely retire due to injury. However, he later returned to play for Ellesmere Port for a couple of years.

He is believed to have died in Cheshire in 1933 (acc to Wikipedia).
