A quick call to Celtic Park revealed that a first teamer had a little free time on his hands these days so they kindly gave me permission to sit down with last years Player of the Year, Aiden McGeady!
No sooner do I get it arranged we at MOTMHQ get another call from none other than Gordon Strachan who insisted on sitting with Aiden and giving his input.
I know you are all itching to see the results (or not, only 127 of you voted, bassas!) so lets get on with it.
KDS “When the draw was made it looked like the easiest we had but results did not go our way and it turned out to be a disappointing campaign. What are your thoughts on this?”
Gordon Strachan  “It was a right good campaign and we played some right good teams with some right good players.”
Aiden McGeady  “Hi to all my fans on Kerrydale Street! I am thrilled to be here to collect the European Player of the Year award for 2008”
KDS “Ummmm, shall we do the run down first?”
Aiden McGeady “Is there any need?
KDS “Lets just see shall we? First those players that never got a vote, Donati, Hutchinson, JVoH, Loovens, McGowan, Naylor, O'Dea, Sheridan”
Gordon Strachan “Some right good players in there that never got a vote”
Aiden McGeady “I am expecting my mobile to ring any minute as all those players call to congratulate me”
KDS “Aye, OK then, moving on to the players that got votes but just did not do enough to crack the top ten, couple of surprises in here! –

Aiden McGeady “Its nice to see wee Shaun back at the club, just a shame he could not match my performances in Europe”
KDS “Erm Aiden….”

KDS “Someone calling with congratulations?”
Aiden McGeady “Naw, just my daddy calling to see how it was going, he was going on about me not winning, I love it when he winds me up like that”
KDS “Aye, OK, on to the top ten!!”

Really low placing for Arthur there, usually one of our star performers in Europe. Maybe his off the park life catching up with him?”
Gordon Strachan “He is a right good keeper, a right good keeper. He also likes a right good bevvy…..”
Aiden McGeady “Its a shame to see a pro do that to himself, I tell everyone at the club to follow my example, just keep your head down and be the best player in Europe”
KDS “Top 5 coming up, in reverse order…..

Not the usual Euro magic from our Japanese star but he proves he is one of our few players that has the class to step up on the big stage”
Aiden McGeady “He is a class act, just the other day I was telling him what a pleasure it is for him to play on the same field as me”
Gordon Strachan “He is a right good player, takes a right good free kick as well!”
KDS “On to fourth and its a dramatic rise in the standings for our German right back Hinkel almost making the top three with 207 votes”
Gordon Strachan “He was a right good signing eh?”
Aiden McGeady “He has been an excellent addition to the side, very noticeable that his best performances came when I was playing on the right, plus when you play against a world class winger day in day out in training you are only going to get better”
KDS “FFS, moving on to the top three”
Aiden McGeady (rubbing hands) “Getting close….”
KDS “With 235 points our club captain Steven McManus!! Big Mick has his critics but he always gives his all when the tic are in Europe!”
Gordon Strachan “Mick is a right good player, a right good captain”
Aiden McGeady “Another one of the greats that has come through the youth system”
KDS “Only two votes left”
Aiden McGeady “And we know who one of them will be”
KDS “If you interrupt me again, I will set Neil Lennon on you!”
Aiden McGeady <Silence>
KDS “Aye, I thought so. The race for first place was close, down to 27 points in the end. His harassing performances of Senna were a glimpse of the player he can be, congratulations to Scott Brown with 512 points!”
Aiden McGeady “Congratulations Broony, nae luck son, hahahahaa, I mean, well done”
Gordon Strachan “Scott is a right good player but seeing this wee nyaffs face at this announcement should be a right good laugh”
Aiden McGeady “eh?”
KDS “So here it is, one of the most prestigious awards on the Scottish football calendar, the Kerrydale Street European Player of the Year! This years award goes to……Gary Caldwell with 535 points”
Aiden McGeady “Thanks everyone on Kerrydale for the votes and kind words, here, wait a second? effin HEID? The HEID?? Are you serious??”
Gordon Strachan “Hahaha, he is a right good Euro POTY is our Gary”
Aiden McGeady “Kerrydale Street, you are all arseholes, you hear me, arseholes, ARSEHOLES!!!”
