Biog

A tough wing-back from Tayside who was handed schoolboy forms while at St. Joseph's School in Dundee. By complete coincidence (!), his father John happened to be Celtic's scout in the North East of Scotland.

After appearing for the Boy's Club U16's and being farmed out to Giffnock North AAFC (Celtic's then feeder club), Paul was taken onto the 'groundstaff' for season 1991/92. For the benefit of younger readers this meant that he became a proper, old-school apprentice who – in addition to turning out for the youth team – cleaned boots and swept changing rooms etc. in order to earn his keep.

Despite featuring prominently in the BP Youth Cup and Glasgow Cup for the Celts, Paul accepted an offer from Premier League St. Johnstone to turn professional and duly moved closer to home in the summer of 1992. However, after failing to break into the Perth outfit's first team he was on the move again a year later, this time even closer to home with Forfar Athletic in the old Second Division. A good number of first team appearances were to follow before he fell out of favour the next League title-winning season, as Forfar triumphed in the newly reorganised Third Division.

As his Forfar teammates saw off the challenge of local rivals Arbroath, and upstarts Caledonian Thistle and Ross County, Paul continued on his northward course to Highland League Keith FC part way through 1994/95.

Although he took part as they were bundled out of the 94/95 SFA Cup by rivals Huntly, he was nowhere to be seen the following season as Keith saw off Deveronvale then deferentially conceded 10 to Rangers in the third round.

His subsequent activities are unknown although it seems plausible he continued to play in his native North East.
