THE Celtic Graves Society are holding an event this Saturday, February 28 at 12noon in Kilsyth Cemetery to commemorate the great Andy McAtee who played for Celtic from 1910 to 1924.

Speakers on the day include Lisbon Lion Jim Craig, former Celtic captain Tom Boyd, Celtic author David Potter and Tony McAtee, who will speak on behalf of the family.

As this is the first non-matchday event, the Celtic Graves Society will be holding a Q&A in a local pub with a small buffet provided after the event with former-players Jim Craig, Tom Boyd and Pat McCluskey.

Andy McAtee played in six championship-winning sides and won four Scottish Cup medals, a total that could possibly have been added to if the competition hadn’t been suspended during the First World War – a period when the Hoops won four titles in a row.

McAtee also played in four victorious Glasgow Cup finals, two successive double wins and in the last of those he scored the only goal of the game, a 1-0 win over Clyde in 1920.

The Charity Cup proved to be something of a forte for McAtee as between 1912 and 1918, Celtic won the trophy an amazing seven times in a row and the right winger played in the first six of those.

In season 1915/16, the Celts completed a grand slam of all three competitions up for grabs when they lifted the championship, the Glasgow Cup and the Charity Cup with McAtee winning all three medals.
