Introduction

There are very few - if any - football clubs to have inspired and fired the imagination of historians and authors quite like Celtic.

Supporters of the Hoops have been lucky enough to have writers and historians like Pat Woods, Tom Campbell, Eugene MacBride, David Potter and many others to frequently turn their attention to the rich pickings provided by the incredible history of the Celts. The body of work produced on the subject of the Bhoys is of such a volume and quality that there is no excuse for any Celtic fan not to know their history.

Yet for the most part these authors don't get the attention and acclaim they and their work deserve. With this in mind The Celtic Wiki Book Award was launched in 2011 as an annual opportunity to highlight the very best in new Celtic-related books. Celtic books released each year are considered for the award with reviews published on The Celtic Wiki and kerrydalestreet.co.uk.

The inaugural award - The Celtic Wiki Book Award 2010/11 - was won by acclaimed author and broadcaster Archie Macpherson for his book - "Undefeated - The Life and Times of Jimmy Johnstone". In 2012 an incredible total of 16 books were in the running for the title. After an internet poll which attracted more than a thousand votes the award was eventually claimed by the novel 'The Road To Lisbon' by Martin Greig and Charles McGarry.

In 2013 organisers have introduced a change in the format of the award. Instead of a public vote The Celtic Book Award 2013 will see the winner decided by a judging panel representing The Celtic Wiki, The Celtic Graves Society and various Celtic websites and forums.
