Review

The weather in the early part of the day was most unpropitious, but it cleared up latterly, and barring a sodden turf the match was played under few disadvantages. The visitors were at full strength, but the Celtic were without Gallagher, McLaren, Coleman and McLaughlin. Duff, of Cowlairs, however, kept goal, and that well. Maley and Dowds figured at half, while Cunningham and Naughton were introduced forward. The visitors lost the toss, and Cassidy kicked off against a strong wind. The play was of a very fast description, the Celt being first to become dangerous. Twice Parkinson saved, and then the Wanderers got well down, and a shot from Cassidy beat Duff. This unexpected reverse was succeeded by most determined play on the part of the home team, and as a result of their exertions Dunbar put on the equalising point. Towards the close of the first half the wanderers scored a second goal, the result of very slack play on the part of the Celts.
Crossing over a goal down, the Celts renewed the contest with every prospect of excelling. The forward play, despite the wind, was very effective, but was of very little use. Naughton, after a brilliant piece of work, equalised the game at the close; and a hard contest thus resulted in a draw – two goals each
