The Scotsman – Monday, 23rd February 1891, page 5

Celtic v Dumbarton – Dumbarton fulfilled their first League fixture with the Celtic at Boghead before a large crowd of spectators. Dumbarton were without McMillan and Mair, whose places were taken by Lang (Methlan Park) and Hutchison of the second eleven. The Celts kicked off, but the home team took up the running, and Bell and Taylor both missed narrowly, the latter’s shot bouncing off the goal post and passed. Still they pegged in, and ultimately Taylor struck the post again, but instead of passing outside the ball went through. This roused the Celts a bit, but the home defence was good, and the result of a sharp attack finished by Hutchison just shaving the bar with a header. The Celts were being rather outplayed, but towards the end of the first half they wakened up, and gave McLeod some bother, although they did not score. Half-time :- Dumbarton, one; Celtic, nothing. The “greens” commenced the second half with more spirit and beat back Dumbarton on their own goal. Play raged keen and even, and after some hard work by Dumbarton’s forwards and halves, Boyle scored with a fine long shot. The Celtic played up after this, and from smart play Dumbarton scored a neat goal. Back the strangers came again, and a second goal was claimed, but only a corner allowed. The point came, however, as from this corner kick the leather was smartly headed through. Play was fast and interesting to the close and the result of a good game was a draw – two goals each.
