Celtic v Rangers – Played at Parkhead, Glasgow, before a large crowd. The pitch was hard frozen, rendering play dangerous. Both teams were under full strength. The Celtic again played the Broxburn Shamrock half. The homesters kicked off with the wind behind them. They had the best of the opening passages, the Rangers risking nothing. The Celtic were monopolising play, but the Rangers managed to keep them out, and occasionally broke away in dangerous style. Corners and free-kicks fell to the groundsmen, but they were not improved upon. Dunbar, the ex-Celt, was the only Ranger who showed up. In twenty minutes the Celts scored with a beauty from Madden. Brady met with an accident, and retired. Five minutes before the interval, Dunbar, in attempting to save, put the ball through his own goal. Interval scores – Celtic, two goals; Rangers, nil. Shortly before the second half, Mitchell, the Rangers’ crack half limped off the field. He did not resume but Brady came out with his head bandaged. The Celtic began in aggressive fashion, but they had to defend. McIntyre was put out by the Rangers instead of Mitchell. The game was more equal, and play ruled open with the Celtic slightly the best. The Rangers put in several fine runs, and were trying more than in the first period. They called upon the Celtic defence three times in succession, the custodian handling cleverly each time. There was a struggle now in the game, the Rangers taking their share of the forcing. Some fine forward play was shown by both sides. The Broxburn representatives again distinguished themselves, the quality of their play greatly improved, and it was chiefly in mid-field. There was no scoring till the finish. Result:- Celtic, two goals; Rangers, nil.
