The Scotsman – Monday, 25th April 1892, page 5

Celtic v Dumbarton – The return fixture between these teams caused considerable interest throughout the country, and was the meaning of drawing a large crowd at Boghead. The weather was very unfavourable, a high wind prevailing, while there were one or two heavy showers of rain. Celtic won the toss, and chose to play with a strong wind in their favour. Miller kicked off, and Dumbarton at once made headway, but Reynolds relieved. The greens then took up the pressing, but their attack was not very deadly. They were beaten back on their own ground, and Boyle tried a good shot, which just missed. Celtic returned to the attack, and a corner fell to their let, but the wind carried the ball on the wrong side of the goal. McLeod saved, and in an instant Taylor raced away to the other end. He was only brought up on the line, the ball rolling harmlessly past. The Celts’ right wing shifted the scene of operations, and McCallum tried a shot which passed outside. Bell, who was going strongly on the left, carried the ball well down the field, and both Thomson and McNaught had tries, the latter shot causing Cullen to use his hands. McLeod saved a shot from Cunningham and a corner and a free kick brought no advantage to the visitors. Taylor shot over at Cullen’s goal, and then Cunningham repeated the operation at the other goal. Bell stopped a shot from Taylor from going through, but the latter was given off-side. Half-time found the teams level – no goals. Dumbarton’s supporters were in great spirits and a win for their favourites was looked upon as a foregone conclusion. The Celts, however, started well, and were quickly before McLeod. Bell and Miller put in a fine run, and, luckily for the Celts, some one came in the way of a due shot from the left winger. A goal to Dumbarton was neatly placed by Keir, but the ball went clean through. Each goal was visited in turn, and M’Mahon struck the post with a fine shot. Cullen’s goal ran just as narrow an escape, a fine ball from Boyle dropping on the top of the bar and going over. Cullen just saved a shot from M’Naught. The Celts were playing much better now than in the first half, and Dumbarton’s goal was in imminent danger. M’Leod averted the danger, however, and a corner kick for Dumbarton was beautifully placed by McNaught, Cullen just fisting out under the bar. The home team still maintained the pressure, and at last Miller, from a pass by Bell, shot the ball past Cullen. This result was received with great cheers. The Celtic made a determined effort to equalise, but the home defence, combined with the wind and rain, was too much for them to overcome, and they retired beaten by one goal to nothing.
