CELTIC V ALL IRELAND XI – At Parkhead, Glasgow, last evening, in presence of 2000 spectators, the Celtic met a strong Irish eleven, which included several of the players who figured in Saturday’s International on the same ground. Celtic had their full League team with the exception of W. Maley, whose place at right half was taken by Towie. A strong wind, which blew diagonally across the field marred the play somewhat. Celtic lost the toss, and Madden’s kick off was well returned, the visitors early settling to their work. For the last quarter of an hour play was open, both goals being in turn attacked. Ultimately, after a good run by the Celtic left wing, McMahon scored the first goal for the home team. This reverse only served to stimulate the efforts of the visitors, who, with the wind in their favour, were playing with a dash which seemed to surprise their redoubtable opponents. Doyle especially had his work cut out, Sherrard, the Limavaddy representative, proving a very able right-winger for the Irishmen. After half-an-hour’s fast play Cullen was beaten by Sherrard, whose equalising point was heartily applauded by the spectators. Half time arrived with the score one goal each. In the second period the Celtic did most of the pressing, but the visiting backs defended with great judgement. A break away by the Celtic right wing resulted in Blessington notching the second point for the home eleven. Madden, for the Celtic, played a somewhat disappointing game, but Kelly at half was as reliable as ever. The visitors played better than did the Irish team on Saturday, Sherrard and Gadikin, on the right being especially noticeable. Owing to darkness setting in the second half was confined to thirty minutes.
