From newspaper reports at the time

Although the Celtic had already been proclaimed the winners of the Scottish League Championship, they had still one fixture to fulfil – that with the third Lanark – which took place last night on Celtic Park, before a fair crowd considering the unfavourable nature of the weather.

The game was very interesting at the start and was well contested. The Third had a fine run the whole length of the field and scored a clear goal from the shot, Cullen slipping and falling on the soft ground in his effort to save. A few minutes afterwards the Celtic scored with a shot that struck the inside of the bar and went through.

After this the Third had decidedly the best of the play and scored again. The Celts strove hard to equalise and Campbell had hard lines with a terrific shot that struck the crossbar.

At half-time the Third were leading by 2 goals to 1.

Shortly after restarting the Volunteers scored a third goal rather easily. As play progressed it became rather rough.

Still the players kept at it, and Kelly scored a second goal for the Celts with a finely judged long shot. The Third Lanark, by clever passing, fairly outplayed the Celts and scored a fourth, and continuing to play with great passing play added a fifth with a quick long shot.

The result was – Third Lanark, 5 goals; Celtic, 2 goals. The game was marred by two regrettable incidents, Doyle, of the Celts being ordered off the field in the first half, and Smith of Third Lanark in the second. Zimmerman, the champion cyclist, and a party of friends viewed the match.
