CELTIC v. 3D LANARK.-This match came off at Celtic Park before six thousand spectators. Kelly made his first appearance for the groundsmen. There were five changes in the Volunteer's eleven. The Volunteers kicked off, but the Celtic forced an unproductive corner. Their start was business-like, and they literally galloped round their opponents, who, although stubborn, failed to hold them. Play ruled more open as the game proceeded. Celtic, with the wind, were terribly aggressive. The Volunteers brought off several plucky raids, and scored with a swift drive. A misunderstanding between the back and the goalkeeper gave the Celtic a second. The Volunteers missed by inches, but forced an unproductive corner. In twenty-five minutes the Celtic forced another goal. The Volunteers missed a grand chance at the goal mouth after beating everybody. At the other end an open goal was refused. Campbcll with a magnificent drive scored number four at eight minutes to the interval. The Celtic goal escaped twice, but they then replied with a fifth. Immediately on restarting both goals in turn had narrow escapes. The Volunteers had a grand chance, but were slow. With the wind the Volunteers took up an aggressive position. Cullen saved his side twice in succession very cleverly: then play again ruled open with the Celtic forcing the pace. Their forward, play was artistic, and most effective by reason of its smartness. The Volunteers’ play had merit notwithstanding the score, but they were short of practice. Two successive corners were forced from the Third, but play got back to the other end, where the, where the home defence successfully withstood an attack. The play slackened somewhat, but the Celtic were still the masters, their wings being swift and tricky. A corner came to them, but it could not be improved upon. Steward tried hard to score for Cathkin, but his repeated attempts were frustrated. Cullen saved several goals. Result:- Celtic 5; Third Lanark, nil.
