RENTON v CELTIC – Played at Renton.

The Celtic team was minus Maley, Madden, and Dunbar. Renton commenced well, and in the first ten minutes had several good tries at the Celts’ goal. M’Mahon and Campbell, by a pretty bit of play, got the ball down to Renton end, and the result was two successive narrow escapes for the goal. Renton retaliated, and for several minutes Reynolds and Doyle had a busy time of it resisting the attacks of the Renton forwards. The game was extremely fast and exciting, Play was now going on at the Renton goal. After some neat dodging, Davidson and Blessington between them bustled the ball past Davie and through. From the kick off Renton had a smart run to the opposite end, and a fine shot by Fleming was to all appearances stopped only accidentally by Doyle. A corner followed, but the same player headed over the bar.

At half-time the game stood :- Celtic, one goal; Renton, nil.

Celtic commenced the second half with a pretty shot at Renton’s goal, which only, however, produced a corner, and it came to nothing. Fleming followed up with a pretty shot at Cullen’s goal, which he saved very cleverly. For fouling the ball within twelve yards of the line Renton were awarded a penalty kick, but even with this advantage failed to score. The Celtic rushed the ball to the opposite end, and evidently with great ease scored a second goal. A few minutes later a free kick for the wearers of the green about thirty yards out enabled Davidson to put on a third point.

Result :- Celtic, three goals; Renton, nil.
