Match Report

From a Newspaper Report at the time

The Celtic, the champions of the Scottish League, met Aston Villa, champions of the English League, at Perry Barr yesterday, before 4000 spectators.
The Scottish club left out Doyle, Cullen and Campbell, and played Dunbar, MacArthur and Divers, whilst the Villa were without two of their league team.
The game was fast and exciting throughout. McMahon scored the first goal for the Celtic about twenty five minutes from the start, but just before half-time the Villa rushed the ball through from a free kick.
In the second half the Villa, who were playing against the wind, made a series of strong attacks on the Celtic goal and McArthur saved repeatedly, although, however, John Devey, receiving the ball from Athersmith, put the Villa ahead.
Ten minutes later McMahon equalised with a shot taken from 25 yards away. The Villa then played desperately hard to secure the winning goal, and, pressing repeatedly, Devey shot in a third point.
The Celtic had the best of the play during the last ten minutes, but could not break through the Villa defence.
They were defeated by 3 goals to 2.
