Review

(newspaper report)
The football season got underway in Dundee, by a match between the premier club of the city and the Celtic of Glasgow. both teams were strongly represented, and Dundee kicked off and at once attacked, Celtic, however, pulled them up smartly, and barrett, the Dundee goalkeeper, was called upon to save several times. Celtic, playing a much better forward game than the Dundee men, had several good runs, and strongly assisted by the back divisions they played effectively for a time. On the other hand, they were met at every point by the Dundee men, and the latter team was rather unsuccessful on one or two occasions when close to the uprights. the first half was contested vigorously, but no blood was drawn.

The men resumed play amid increased enthusiasm, and the play of the Dundee forwards showed a marked improvement. for a time the home team had most of the play, and on one occasion Reynolds almost conceded a goal to the Dundee , sending the ball against the upright. Shortly afterwards Dundee got up to Cullen's charge, and Dickson scored with a splendid shot. The pace was forced, and it seemed defensive work was put in by the Celtic back division. In the closing stages of the game Celtic got the ball to the Dundee end, and as the result of a prolonged scrimmage the leather was forced through ten seconds from the call of time. The match which terminated amid great excitement on the part of the thousands of spectators present, resulted in a draw of one goal each.
