Trivia

  • Match was declared void, and replayed with Celtic winning 2-0.
  • This match was replayed on 29th Dec 1894
  • Celtic’s protested that Hibs had fielded a couple of ineligible players would later be upheld by the authorities and a replay ordered, the game to take place back at Easter Road, although somewhat curiously both the Hibs players at the centre of the Celtic protest had been allowed to take part in the following game.
  • There had actually been a spate of games marked void during this season of Scottish Cup matches, so this was not an abnormal situation.
  • There was possibly some tension between the two clubs & supports due to that Hibernian were denied promotion despite having won the second division title in 1893/94. Celtic, Hearts & Rangers opted for 3rd placed Clyde instead of Hibs. Also some Hibs fans claimed Celtic partly at fault for the demise of the original Hibs club.
