Trivia

  • This match was a replay of the first match which Hibs won 2-0. First match was voided.
  • This time Celtic won the tie, but didn’t go on to win the Scottish Cup title.
  • In original 15th Dec game, Celtic’s protest that Hibs had fielded a couple of ineligible players would later be upheld by the authorities and a replay ordered, the game to take place back at Easter Road, although somewhat curiously both the Hibs players at the centre of the Celtic protest had been allowed to take part in this game. Celtic triumphed this time so why the need to protest again.
  • There had actually been a spate of games marked void during this season of Scottish Cup matches, so this was not an abnormal situation.
  • There was possibly some tension between the two clubs & supports due to that Hibernian were denied promotion despite having won the second division title in 1893/94. Celtic, Hearts & Rangers opted for 3rd placed Clyde instead of Hibs. Also some Hibs fans claimed Celtic partly at fault for the demise of the original Hibs club.
