Trivia

  • Some sources claim this is a solitary appearance for Queen’s Park legendary Walter Arnott who was an invited guest player, drafted in to help shore up the defence in place of Reynolds!
BUT he did NOT play in this game at all. Many records/databases over the years have erroneously claimed that he had.
  • The Glasgow Herald match report doesn’t mention Walter Arnott at all! Their report says Reynolds played instead of Walter Arnott.  Dundee Courier & Scottish Referee confirm Walter Arnott opted NOT to play in this match due to the soft ground conditions. Shame he didn’t play as lost a chance for a major Scottish pioneering football legend to have played for Celtic, and would have wound up Queen’s Park’s administration.
  • We assume that early records/databases maybe were based on pre-match teamsheets which weren’t updated.

Review

Queen’s Parks legendary Walter Arnott was invited to guest for Celtic in this match, but opted not to. He was to help shore up the defence.  He was an old player for the top tier at the time he was invited to play for Celtic, but opted out due to the soft conditions of the ground.

He soon retired after this match. Disappointing to have lost out on having such a pioneering legendary player not end up playing for Celtic.

Going by the scoreline, in an incredible match with six goals in last 30 minutes, he might have helped make a difference for Celtic who had to fight back from 4-1 down, as in Celtic may not have conceded as many if he had played, but we’ll never know now.
