Trivia

  • James Devlin’s last competitive match.
  • Debut for John Devlin, and sole match for William Thomson.
  • Two brothers played alongside each other, James Devlin & John Devlin (the only time they played alongside each other for Celtic). Neither was to make it at Celtic.
  • Debut for Willie Ferguson
  • The outside-right of Leith Athletic (John Marshall) was tackled by Celtic’s Dan Doyle early in the first half and broke his leg, and the snap was so distinctly heart it made patrons in the north stand (i.e. the Jungle) flinch. The player had to wait until half-time for an ambulance but a substitute, Celtic’s Hamilton, took his place.
  • The break was said to be so bad that the whole south stand (the Jungle/North Stand) winced.
