Review

The League match between the Celtic and Dundee at Celtic Park was expected to be one of the closest of the season on Saturday. But it turned out a miserable fiasco.

Dundee were unfortunate with their men, three of them (Ferrier, Longair, and McDonald) being injured, and they played the whole of the second half with nine men only.

However, Celtic had five goals when Dundee’s full team were on the field, and even up to that time the losers were certainly outplayed.

In the second half they went, metaphorically speaking, to pieces, and the Celtic scoring goal after goal won by eleven goals to nil.

The crushing defeat is all the more remarkable coming after as it did, Dundee’s recent brilliant victories.

The results of Saturday’s matches leave the league Championship in a more interesting condition than ever it was before.

From newspaper reports from the time

These clubs played off their return League fixture at Celtic Park before a very large turnout of spectators.

Fifteen minutes from the start Blessington scored the first goal for the Celtic.

The Celtic all round were playing the best game, and from a pass Madden scored a second goal.

The Celtic seemed to get the measure of their opponents as Blessington, Madden, McMahon, and Maley each scored a goal, thus making the score six goals to nothing at half time.

On the game being restarted the Celts at once bore down on Barrett, and McMahon soon scored the seventh goal of the match.

The Celtic continued to have all the play, and scored other four goals, thus winning an uninteresting and one-sided game by eleven goals to nil.
