Summary

Queen`s Park went into the Final at Ibrox Park in the best of conditions and full of confidence. They`d beaten Celtic at Parkhead in the Glasgow League and 3rd LRV in the Charities semi finals and they`d a good, settled team. But the Bhoys, while playing a couple of stiff friendlies against English sides had really coasted since comfortably winning  the Scottish League. The Final was a tasty dish and more than twelve thousand craned forward to see the action. Celtic started like greased lightening completely overwhelming the Spiders midfield and if Kenny Anderson in their goal hadn`t been in International form the THREE EMS, Martin, McMahon and Madden, would have had the Green & Whites over the hill and far away by half time. As it was, only a snap Sandy McMahon shot separated the sides after 45 minutes. Queen`s sauntered back for the second half and suddenly Celtic wobbled. Lambie tried and failed, Bob McColl had Dan McArthur clearing and with time running out, a bit of Willie Lambie magic did the trick. Out on the wing he got round Peter Meehan and then James Kelly and tucked the ball into McArthur`s net and Queen`s were still doing the pressing when a peep on Mr.McPherson`s Acme Thunderer signalled an extra half hour. In the scorching sunshine the players tottered on and to almost everyone`s relief Allan Martin`s strike in the 104th minute settled the Cup`s destination – Celtic Park, for the fifth time in succession.
