Trivia

  • (ht=0-1) @ Celtic Park 17/5/1898 Funds for a Renton charity
  • This late season charity game didn`t attract much of a crowd and Celtic played an extremely weak side and Queen`s Park also took the opportunity  o field some youngsters. However, it was auld heid Bob McColl, all of 22, who scored the only first half goal. Hugh Dinsmore headed past Alick King five minutes after the tea break and when King blocked a Willie Hamilton shot, Rob Lambie slipped home the rebound. McCafferty`s late goal merely kept the score keeper from being bored.
  • The goalkeeper WAS Alick King and it certainly was a Celtic reserve line up and QP also brought in some fringe men(being mid May, many of the amateurs were away playing cricket or tennis or on holiday or whatever). However,  has been as a first class game although possibly the contemporary Hampden committee would have considered it as unofficial as they did on numerous occasions in the 19th century. Just one man now missing – Hinds.
