Review
It was a foggy day in Glasgow town and admission for this third round Scottish Cup game was doubled to 1/-(5pence -£8 in 2025) on the spurious grounds that Queen`s Park & the SFA wanted to prevent a crush, the ground capacity being only about 28,000. In the event, only about 13,00 turned up and they didn`t even see a Cup tie. Tommy Bowie shot in in the third minute and the ball deflected off Willie Orr`s foot past Dan McArthur to put Queen`s Park ahead. A quarter of an hour later, Johnny Campbell tried a speculative bang from well out and Jim Clark fumbled the ball into the net for the equaliser. Two minutes later, Johnny Divers beat him again and the Spiders confidence began to drain away although they did go back to the pavilion on level terms thanks to Bob McColl`s penalty after Davie Storrier hauled back Willie Stewart. Before the players had had time to digest their half time cuppa and biscuit than Celtic surged away; Jim Irons tripped Jack Bell and Sandy McMahon headed Storrier`s free kick past Clark. Two minutes on, in the 49th minute, Jock Gillespie brought down Bell again and this time Storrier`s free kick led to Campbell`s header floating past Clark. The mist now closed in and in the 67th minute, Mr.McPherson decided he couldn`t follow the play and blew his Acme Thunderer to end the game much to the chagrin of the Celtic party who protested vigorously to no avail; but, to be fair, both sides had urged the referee to end the game at half time. Agreement was reached in the Hampden pavilion that the game would be played over at Parkhead the following week with gate receipts from both games equally shared.
