Review

The gluepot of Celtic Park suited the home side to a tee; big and strong they ploughed, sewed and reaped a comfortable win over a lightweight, vulnerable Queen`s Park XI who played South African Wilf Waller in goal. And Waller alone kept the scoresheet blank in the opening half saving from Johnnys Campbell, Divers and Hodge and even a wayward header from his own full back, Jock Gillespie! The Springbok `keeper continued to keep the eager Celtic forwards at bay for another quarter of an hour until Sandy McMahon rifled home the opener after Jack Bell had hit the post. Two minutes later the tie was decided when McMahon added a second. Only an embarrassing present from Mr.McPherson give the Spiders a paltry crumb of comfort. Bob McColl was yards off side when he put the ball past Dan McArthur who stood aside to let the ball pass.

The two games had raked in £1,754(almost £300,00 in 2025) – £704 at Hampden and £1,050 at Parkhead(reverting to a 6d gate); a tidy sum to help with the finances of both clubs.
