1906-04-21: Celtic 1-0 Heart of Midlothian, League Division 1

Match Pictures | Matches: 19051906 | 1905-06 League

Trivia

  • Nice day but sudden torrential downpour in first half stopped play for five minutes, then McNaught was sent off for fouling Davie Hamilton.
  • Celtic well on top, as Hearts were “keeping themselves” for next week’s Scottish Cup final. (They would beat Third Lanark 1-0)
  • Celtic defeat Hearts who are to finish second in the league title race, and show the club is rightful season champions
  • Strictly Celtic had already won the league in the last match, and mathematically couldn’t be caught, but as Hearts finished second (6pts behind at the end), this was a great way to wrap up the season.
  • Hearts had knocked Celtic out the Scottish Cup so this was revenge and showed who was clearly the best side in Scotland for the season.
  • Hugh Watson‘s last match for Celtic, and his only match this season. Injuries have prematurely ended his career at Celtic.
  • Debut for Edward Garry.
