Match report from The Scotsman, 14th March 1921

[…] About 9000 spectators witnessed Ayr United defeat the Celtic at Somerset Park, where the vagaries of the strong March wind interfered with the play to a considerable extent. Celtic were much under strength, and the United were minus McCloy and Crosbie. Within one minute Gibson, at left half for Ayr, scored for his side, and before the interval Quinn added a second with a raking shot. Celtic had numerous chances to score, but failed to turn them to account, and an eager Ayr defence saw to it that in the second half these were few and far between. With a snap shot from 16 yards out McLean reduced the leeway shortly after the resumption, bt Slade put the issue beyond doubt by scoring neatly for Ayr from close range.
